 Title: Jason Adamo: "Sunflower" EP  | views:1955 |  "Adamo, a very soulful, singer/songwriter now based in Chapel
Hill, has recently completed work on a NEW EP, entitled "Sunflower"!
This new record is an ambitious and inspired attempt to put a
mark on the talent laden music scene in North Carolina
and beyond.
On December 10th, 2007, Jason Adamo
began recording his album to be released in Late summer of
2008.
with the
combination of Jason's soulful voice, inspiring
lyrics, and a handful of North Carolina's most
talented musicians, the album is equipped to fascinate
the music scene not just locally, but nationwide.
Recorded mostly in North Carolina at 313 Studios,
Jason Adamo, and producer Derek Olds
(whose experience includes projects involving some of
today's most respected artists and producers such as
Maroon 5, John Legend, James McKinney, and Ray
Contreras) decided to finish the album at the
well known Miami Sound Lab (owned by music icon Carlos
Alvarez) in Miami, Fl. this February.
The spirit of the album breaths not only from the
passion of Jason's vocals, but in the dynamic
instrumentation that progresses from the first lyric
down to the very last chord.
Blessed with the contributions of so many talented
artists, including bassist Robert Sledge (Founding
Member of Ben Folds Five, International Orange),
guitarists, John Briggs (Formerly of Only Midnight),
and Josh Preslar (Josh Preslar Band), drummer Larz
Egon (Toured with Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesny, Clint
Black and more), backing vocals by Beverly Kain (an
amazing local Gospel talent), and many more, the album
is sure to arouse the ears of listeners. From the
soothing and emotive version of "Purple Sky" (one of
Jason's older songs whose heartfelt lyrics have
recently been dedicated to the US Troops, stationed
overseas), to the remarkable guitar driven "Not
Ready", each song has the ability to pull listeners
into the mood and message each strives to deliver. |

| Title: Liquor Boxx Rocked My Socks and My Clothing Off!! | views:1771 | | Man, i got to see these guys just a few days ago at Myrtle Beach at Bike Week-what a show. They were hands-down one of the best live acts I've ever seen. They really got the crowd into their show, we were eating out of the palm of their hands. The singer just came off as such a cool guy and had all the ladies wanting to get onstage with him. The bassist was steady and could really groove and the drummer was just fantastic, even doing a several-minutes solo and held our attention. And the guitarist did and played things I'd never heard before. It was like a seance to the guitar gods with hot chicks. |

| Title: WOW! Rock's Alive and Well in Raleigh w/Effigy | views:3499 | Hey,
Did anyone catch either of Effigy's shows last week? On Thursday they were the "dedicating" band at Crowley's tribute to Nathan Davis, marking the one year anniversary of Nathan's untimely passing. After the stage was dedicated and renamed the Nathan Davis stage the guys in Effigy launched into Nathan's favorite Floyd tune "Wish You Were Here". It was an awesome tune to kick off their killer mini-set of rock tunes and these guys rocked the house like never before. I was so impressed that I had to catch them the next night when they played a full three sets of tunes at Overtime Sports Pub in Raleigh. And boy they did not disappoint. Playing for the first time at Overtime, the band immediately won over the crowd and had everyone dancing and singing the entire night. The place was packed full and I couldn't help notice that every single pair of eyes was glued to the band, especially frontman Mr. Smith. He has to be hands down one of the most energetic, crowd pleasing performers I've ever seen on the local bar scene.
If you've never seen these guys and are looking for an awesome, rocking night then you MUST get out to see them. They are a killer rock cover band; one of the best to come along in a long, long time. Check out their website for more gigs.....it's

Lookin' Back and Rockin' Forward . . .
Robbin Thompson has been in the music business a long time. From his Psychedelic garage band The Tasmanians in the mid-'60s, to hitting the road with Steel Mill and Bruce Springsteen in the early '70s, to a solid solo career, to the Robbin Thompson Band in the '80s, and beyond . . . it's been an interesting ride, to say the least. And at 57, that ride is starting to seem like a blur in the rearview to Robbin . . . but that's natural when your daughters are getting married all of a sudden. WTF? That's life, ya know.
Lots of people in the Southeast remember Robbin from the RTB days and their TWO B's PLEASE album, and the national chart hit "Brite Eyes" . . . and of course, "Sweet Virginia Breeze." But new music has never stopped flowing from one of Richmond's favorite sons. When he's not writing and singing for national commercials and films (or out sailing on the Chesapeake), Robbin finds time to crank out a new solo release every few years . . . and the stuff just keeps getting better and better. The years of composing for advertising have never sapped Robbin's creativity, when it comes to his own solo material.
His new album, JUST A BLUR IN THE REARVIEW, delivers the goods once again. Ten tracks with Robbin's signature blend of rock, blues, and country grooves . . . Americana. The music is at times introspective. The title track gives us all something to think about: "Life goes by while you're busy makin' plans" . . . and a strong messge of hope comes with the beautiful ballad "Water from the Moon."
As usual, there are a number of interetsing guest artists. The title track was written with Phil Vassar. On "Where You've Never Been," Robbin rips a smoking groove on an exotic axe called the zhong ruan (a result of his playing in China in 2002), with bluesy backing vocals by Ellen McIlwaine. "I Won't Quit" was written and played with Butch Taylor and Carter Beauford of the Dave Matthews Band, and the song was featured in the movie "The Fighting Temptations," starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyonce Knowles. Old friend Steve Basset (of "Sweet Virginia Breeze" fame) also makes an appearance on organ and backing vocals. Robbin's father was a rocket scientist who made guitars (dig that) . . . and Robbin strums and picks those keepsakes on this album.
Robbin Thompson is an artist who can truthfully say his best work isn't lost in the rearview somewhere, back in the '70s or '80s. He's making it right now. His powerful voice and guitar playing are stronger than ever. These days, when you see Robbin in concert, it's just one man and one guitar . . . and it'll blow your mind. There are 26 musicians and guest artists on the new album . . . but in concert, Robbin will strip this stuff down and wail on it. You can write about it, but you have to see it (and hear it) to truly appreciate the experience.
And for those who can't . . . or haven't seen any of Robbin's recent shows, you can get an idea of what they're like by listening to LIVE IN STUDIO A (released last year). One man, one guitar (and even a zhong ruan) . . . and a crowd of 80 people. Check it out. The astonishing blues version of the Beatles' "You Can't Do That" alone is worth the price of the disc.
In the Raleigh area, Robbin has played a number of gigs at the Six String Cafe in Cary. He maintains a strong fan base, and is a safe bet for any venue.

| Title: Effigy @ The UpperDeck | views:2385 | If anyone missed Effigy @ The Upper Deck last Friday night, you missed a rockin' treat. With former members of Underdog, Royal Street and Boomerang, it's hard to go wrong with these guys. They have the most energetic show I've seen in Raleigh. With a broad range of music ranging from Audioslave to Bush to RHCP to U2 and Zeppelin, there was something for everyone. Check 'em out when you can. It's worth it!
